The natural plants used to make the dyes for painting were black walnut, beets, spinach, tea, and marigolds. Just boil these plant products in water and strain and you have natural paint. Here is a lesson plan for making natural dyes.

This poster shows the colors that various plants turn wool, masha Allah. It was put together by volunteers at the Meadow Farm Museum and is on dispaly at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.
