My Dream

I love being a teacher. During my time volunteering with Girl Scouts, I have realized how much I have missed being a part of something bigger.  I guess what I miss the most is working with other older girls and especially being around other adults. Ideally, my dream would be to start a full time Islamic school for girls similar to how our Girl Scout troop is set up. Maybe the structure would be more like a co-op than a school.
As I have mentioned before on this blog, I no longer feel like I am able to handle my children’s education on my own. I just feel like I have too many children to provide them a proper education.
The major obstacle is that almost all of the other girls are in either public school or Islamic school and their are no other parents who I am aware of who share my dream.  The few that do homeschool desire to send their girls to school and just be a “mom” again. They didn’t realize how much work homeschooling is and how little support there exists for us.
So anyway, I am just happy to be part of something at this point, but I will continue to dream and pray that my Islamic all girls school can one day become a reality.

  1. Assalamualaikum.
This is a wonderful dream Umm Tafari – an all girl Muslim school.
Almost every major city in North America has an Islamic school. And mostly they are poorly run. I feel, it’ll be a great starting point if we cleaned up the way the existing Islamic schools are run. Make them into a nurturing environment for Muslim children, both boys and girls. This would give us a great platform to start a single gender school for older Muslim boys and girls.
Of course to do this we would need the active involvement of all members of community, especially parents of children in Islamic schools, Muslim educators and Muslim leaders. Am I asking for too much from my Muslim brothers and sisters?????
As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. Our Muslim communities are so far from this.
Personally I have got more support on teaching Islam to my children over the WWW than in my real community 😦

  2. Assalamualaykum, its a good dream, maashAllah.

  3. Assalamu alaikum Umm Tafair, inshaAllah you and your family are well. Good to see you blogging again. MashaAllah I think your dream is a fantastic idea and I pray Allah azza wa jal turns it into a reality for you. My dream is to inshaAllah have my own nursery with a boarding facility attached to it for orphan children. If Allah wills for it not to happen, at least we can pass our dreams to our children and who knows, maybe they will carry on the idea.
