This past Sunday worked out very well as I was able to have some time alone to work on the upcoming week. The girls said that they enjoyed the Islamic Sunday school and also seemed very motivated to learn Arabic. They have been taking initiative and working on their homework with each other. I am just hoping my husband stays motivated and is able to continue taking them each week. This really enables me to be much more productive without all the interruptions.
In other news, the summer library programs are still going strong so we are still taking advantage of everything we can while they are still available.
This week Hannah and Jamilah attended a journaling and collage workshop. This is pretty much the same thing as visual journaling. I just read on the library blog that they are thinking of making this a monthly program. Everything helps as art supplies are so expensive.
I also found out that the workshop’s instructor runs a free school at a local art gallery. They offer free weekly classes in art, history, gardening, etc. for the community. Another possible educational resource for us. I am all about free educational resources. As I network with more people usually at the library, I find more and more grass root efforts in our community.
Another awesome program this week was terrarium making in the secret garden also at the downtown library. This isn’t a difficult project to do but once again, it just makes my job so much easier when someone else does the research, provides the materials, and explains the project. All we have to do is show up and try not to get a parking ticket downtown. I got one last week:(
After attending the terrarium workshop yesterday, we attended a sisters’ halaqa luncheon at the masjid. It was so nice, maashaa allah. We participated in an Eid card exchange, played some games, won some prizes, ate lunch, listened to an Islamic reminder about sisterhood, and just enjoyed each others’ company. It was a lovely reminder for myself and the girls to keep striving here in our community with our fellow sisters in Islam.
