Girl Scout Cookie Sale Adventures

Jennah needed to collect some Girl Scout cookie money from one of her schoolmates today in our neighboorhood and they ended up wanting to order more. Well, this turned into the little girls and I pounding the pavement all over the neighbor in an attempt to get more cookie sales.  We know a few more people now that they are in school, so we feel a bit more comfortable asking for sales from the people we know at least.

Alhamdulillah, we were very successful today and even connected a bit more with the neighbors. The last house we visited turned out to be an Iraqi refugi Muslim family. Jennah suggested we stop by because one of the daughters rides the little one’s school bus. It turned out that two of the older daughters go to school with Hannah and Jamilah too. They had only been in the states for six months and were such a sweet family. The mother practically spoke no English but the 12 year old was very fluent. While we visited they even gifted the little girls some hijabs. We had a very nice visit and are looking forward to meeting again next week when we drop off their cookie order.

    Assalamo alaikum,

I am the same as Umm Rashid, I would be really embarrassed to go door to door! Perhaps it is a cultural difference? I so many American films there is a girl scout cookie scene, lol! Do many people buy them? Are there health and safety restrictions? I think it is illegal to sell door to door here.

That is great that you have met a new family, inshaAllah it will be the start of a new friendship.

    • As salaam alaikum ummrashid and ummsalam,

I had never sold anything door to door either until we started Girl Scouts. Cookie sales are our only form of funding. We would not be able to have a troop without it.

Everyone we have asked has bought cookies. One lady actually said that she had been looking for us again this year. It is very common here. Over the last two years, we have developed a customer base and mostly returned to the same people. Since this is a seasonal thing, people look forward to cookie season.

I am unaware of any health or safety issues. The girls don’t go alone.
