Explodapalooza and Baking Fail

Since I am stuck at home with a flat tire today, I thought I would share our learning adventures from yesterday.

The girls didn’t have any homework assignments, so I went ahead and took Hannah and Jamilah to a science program at the library. The summer reading program this summer has a science theme and is called Fizz,Boom, Read.  During this program, the girls built water rockets and launched them in the grass. They also experimented with making Coke and Mentos geysers. Both activities served as excellent reviews of physical reactions which the girls had studied this year in science.

Before leaving the house for this event, I helped Jennah bake the peach cobbler as test run for baking it next week for her creative project on the author Roald Dahl. Well, I am glad we did do a test run. The cobbler didn’t turn out that great and Jennah didn’t think the children would eat it due to the sticky smell of the peaches. Back to the drawing board for this project.

  1. Assalamualaykum,
We have baking fails when we try something new here too. My baking books have notes next to the recipes like “good”, “too sticky”, “no-don’t try again”
    I still like experimenting though.

    • Wa alaikum as salaam ummrashid,

I think it was a combination of things. I used canned peaches in concentrated fruit juices instead of syrup. Also, we doubled the amount of flour mixture because it looks so liquidy.
