Everyone has been kept beneficially occupied this summer. Jennah, Hawwa, and Siddiqah were involved with summer camp and summer enrichment (art and STEM) up until yesterday. They also were able to participate in an art class at the fine arts museum. Currently, they are at my parents’ house for the rest of the week. I hope to find something else to keep them occupied for the last two weeks of summer break. Life is much easier for all when they are occupied.
Hannah and Jamilah were also very busy with classes at the technical center. Jamilah challenged herself with a robotics class, the same one that Yahya had taken several years ago. Hannah took the computer design class. I accidentally deleted over 900+ pictures on my phone, so I don’t have much to share:(
The two girls also were involved in a water quality teen impact program where they earned over 20 hrs. of community service. Their efforts were featured in a statewide broadcast. You can listen to the show or read the transcript here. http://ideastations.org/radio/news/summer-camps-teach-youth-about-homelessness-food-justice-and-hydrology
Yahya completed the world history summer school course at the end of July. It was much easier than we both expected it to be which was probably a blessing as the majority of the course occurred during Ramadan. He was unable to participate in football practice while fasting but is now back in full force. The team just completed two a days (6 hours of practice per day) which is pretty gruelling. Alhamdulillah, that was scheduled after Ramadan.
So, between driving all over town for the children’s activities, my husband and I have also been busy with the scavenger hunt for school supplies, homebirth supplies, and baby and mommy supplies. I will also be adding in weekly midwife visits as well. There is only a few weeks left before school starts and the baby is due. My due date is during the first week of school. It just makes the beginning of the school year even more exciting.
