So my due date has come and gone and I am attempting to wait patiently for labor. In the meantime, life goes on. School began this past week and so far so good. It seems a bit more relaxed this year probably because we have started from the beginning and they are being eased into the homework load. Also, they aren’t having to play catch up either.
However, Siddiqah who is now in first grade is really feeling the academic jump from Kindergarden. Both Siddiqah and I were hoping she would get Hawwa’s first grade teacher from last year. Well, she didn’t and she isn’t very happy about her new teacher. We will be patient and see how things progress.
The transition to high school for Yahya seems to be going well too. After meeting and speaking to the Latin teacher, I decided at the recommendation of the teacher to go ahead and place him in Latin III. He is still nervous about this, but I just felt that since he had already taken 2 and 1/2 years of Latin, it would be a waste of his time to be placed back in Latin II. Insha allah, there are only 12 students in Latin III and they are all upperclassmen.
As far as extracurricular activities, the girls finished up their art classes before school started. Siddiqah’s painting was chosen to be put on display in the education wing at the fine arts museum.
Hannah and I picked up her pottery yesterday at the museum. This was her first attempt at wheel throwing. She said she found it very challenging.
Hannah and Jamilah have also started up their jewerly making business again and have been successfully selling some of it at my husband’s work.
I am praying they will be able to continue with the art classes this year and possibly find more venues for selling their jewelry.
Sadly, our Islamic Girl Scout group has dissolved due to lack of participation and community commitment, so I am not sure how to fill that void. I am guessing art classes and having them participate in community service when the baby gets a bit older will help.
Hopefully, I will have big news in the next post:)
