Despite the Snow and Illness

Last week ended up being a long week with school being canceled due to snow. Most of the extracurricular activities were canceled as well.

Despite the snow, there were a few activities towards the end of the week that were able to be continued as scheduled. The library’s monthly Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meeting still met. Actually, there was an opening for another member, so Hannah was able to join too. Last night, Jamilah participated in a TAB summit where teen representatives from all the county’s libraries met to collaborate and discuss ideas for TAB and other library programming.  She loved it and even won prizes including 2 henna cones!

In addition to the TAB group,  Jamilah has been involved with the Teen Writers’ Guild at another library as well. She seems to enjoy that activity. Really, she loves anything that has to do with reading, writing, and art.

Jamilah also just completed an Fiber Frenzy after school 4 week workshop.  It was supposed to be 6 weeks in length but 2 of the classes were canceled due to snow. She practiced embroidery,  dyeing with indigo, and felting. It was at the Center for the Arts Specialty Center where both Hannah and Jamilah may apply to attend high school.

As for the illnesses,  Hashem started running a high fever over the weekend. With no other symptoms and testing negative for the flu, we were sent home from urgent care to wait and see. Several days later, the fever broke and he developed a full body rash. His pediatrician diagnosed it as Roseola, a common childhood illness.  Alhamdulillah, he is feeling much better now in spite of cutting three teeth in addition to being sick.  We are all exhausted due to him crying inconsolably at night.

Well, last night it snowed again. Today is another snow day for the children and my husband. Hannah and Jamilah were hoping to start a teen cycling class at the Y this evening. Jennah’s Destination Imagination competition is scheduled for Saturday, but with the snow, it probably will be postponed.  I am surely looking forward to spring.

  1. Assalamualaykum, sorry to hear about these tests. Alhamdulillah we have not experienced any significant snow this year and so we’ve also escaped the frustration of cancellations.
May Allah give Hashem good health after this illness. Ameen

    • Wa alaikum as salaam ummrashid,

Ameen. We actually has another snow storm after that one. This past week was their first full week on school in a month.
