So far, May has been jam packed with goings on. Even though school ends in June here, most of the end of year testing is done in May.
Although, Jennah, Hawwa, and Siddiqah did have a break in routine yesterday for field day. I was able to come for lunch and also watch a few games.
After the field day, I drove them across town to an opportunity to learn about the Maasai tribe from Kenya. The girls met the chief’s wife and created some jewelry with their help.
In other art news, Siddiqah’s painting from an art class last summer was placed on exhibit at the local fine arts museum in the education section. We were very excited for her, maashaa allah, to have her painting to be chosen and be placed in the same museum as other world famous artists such as Monet and Picasso.
The girls along with Isa have also started tennis lessons though the county this month which will continue until Ramadan.
This past week Isa started a two day a week preschool. He hasn’t shared many details about it and I am concerned his poor hearing his ability to gain much from it. He is scheduled to have another surgery to remove his adeniods and have more tubes implanted due to the reoccurring fluid next month, Insha allah. He is also learning T ball through the county.
As for Yahya, he has been involved in cofacilitating conflict resolution workshops in an inner city middle school. Initially, he was reluctant as he was missing conditioning for football. After a few sessions though, he realized not only were the students benefitting but he was as well. Then, yesterday, we received notification that he would be honored as a new trainer. They usually only honor the Peacemaker of the Year, but this year they will honor a few youth as well. So, we told him that now he really needs to live up to this award not only in the community but at home as well.
